“Your Future is on the Line” Clothesline Work Party joins thousands of events across the planet on 10/10/10: World’s Largest Day of Practical Action to fight Climate Change.
Organizers in Williamstown will be installing twenty clotheslines around town on October 10. Hanging clothes to dry reduces greenhouse gas emissions and saves money. Work crews will fan out across Williamstown from noon to five PM. Residents can sign up by October 3 for free assistance installing their clothesline. Residents can receive a $25 rebate from the COOL Committee with proof of purchase for a line installed in conjunction with the 10/10/10 workday. The twenty slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Elizabeth Smith is available in advance of the work party to help people choose what clothes drying options are best for them. Organizers will be photo-documenting clothesline installations so let us know about your project or send a picture.
The Clothesline Work Party is Williamstown’s effort to join in the world’s largest day of practical action to fight the climate crisis. On October 10, people across the planet will pick up hammers, shovels, and caulking-guns and join the 10/10/10 Global Work Party. To date, over 4300 events are planned in 173 countries.
To sign up to have a work crew to install your clothesline, or to join the work party as a worker, contact Wendy Penner at wendypenner@hotmail.com, 458-4708, or go to www.coolwilliamstown.org to fill out clothesline installation request form. Those interested in technical assistance installing their own clothesline or other line drying questions should contact Elizabeth Smith (Elizabeth@caretakerfarm.org, 458-4309).
The workday will end with a potluck dinner at 6PM First Congregational Church where people can celebrate the day’s successes. All are welcome.
This local event is co-sponsored by the Williamstown COOL Committee, First Congregational Church, the Hoosic River Watershed Association and the Williams College Zilkha Center for Environmental Initiatives, with support from The Chorus Foundation. The 10/10/10 Global Work Party is being coordinated by the international climate campaign 350.org and 10:10 Global.
